Volunteer Training

Welcome to our Good Neighbours Befrienders volunteer training. Thank you for joining us as a befriender!

This page has all the information you’ll need for training, applying and beyond.

Training Documents

If you’re attending an online training session, please download the following two documents. The notes will guide you through the session. The policies give you vital information about safeguarding, driving, gifts and so on. You’ll need both to hand during the training.

Application Documents

To become a befriender, you’ll need to fill in the Hobbies and Interests application form. This allows us to match you with an older person who shares similar interests. The form is for everyone who would like to befriend.

After filling in your application document, you can apply for your FREE police DBS check. It’s pretty easy to fill out, but you can download a how-to guide here:

Need paper copies?

If you need a paper copy of any of the above, please let us know – we’ll be happy to help!

Extra resources

Are you befriending someone with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety? Download our tips on how to help them as a befriender.

If we’ve provided you with a face shield or visor, you may need to construct it! It’s very easy, our assembly instructions will walk you through it step by step.
