Good Neighbours Coventry
Good Neighbours Coventry was founded in 2016 to provide friendship and social activity for over 50s in Coventry. More about our usual operations can be found below. Face to face befriending and all social clubs are currently suspended.
During COVID-19 (as of 27.7.2020):
We are offering during COVID-19 to isolated over 50s in CV1-CV6:
- Temporary telephone befriending
- Temporary pen pal befriending
- For older people with no income, support with social supermarkets or Foodbank parcels
- Temporary medication delivery (only if pharmacy will not deliver)
- From September 2020 – home befriending visitors
We are not accepting new referrals for shopping support or for 18-49 year olds.
We are volunteer dependent – so we cannot guarantee support to everyone. Referrals will not be processed over weekends/Bank Holidays/evenings. We can’t force anyone to accept support.
If you are able to shop online or via the telephone, you can find our list of local shops offering food delivery here: tinyurl.com/covfooddelivery .
To volunteer, please visit tinyurl.com/gncovid19 .
Our usual operations
Good Neighbours Coventry was developed by local churches (via HOPE Coventry and Together for Change) in partnership with Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire to reduce isolation and therefore improve wellbeing amongst older people. This takes the form of 1:1 befriending (visiting people at home and simply chatting to them), group activities (such as coffee mornings, choirs, and more), or signposting to other useful organisations and clubs (through our Activity Guides – download them below – and other contacts).
If you know anyone over 50 who might benefit from a weekly visit from a befriender, a local coffee morning or friendship group, please get in contact with us. Equally, if you have half an hour at any point in your week spare to offer friendship over a cup of tea to a local older person, we would love to hear from potential volunteers too. For more information on Good Neighbours Coventry groups, befriending or visiting, contact email@example.com or 07563 902 904.
Churches or faith based organisations looking to start or improve an older people’s outreach project can apply for a small grant, so do get in touch to register interest for this.
Activity Guides for Over 50s
All friendship groups are currently on hold due to COVID-19, as of July 2020.
We have developed printable activity guides for each area of Coventry CV1-CV6, explaining which social groups and clubs are available, what they are like, and how to get there. Each guide is always a work in progress, so if you spot a group that is missing, or an update that is needed, please do let us know! Get in touch with us for a copy.
