Pentecost 2017 (June 3rd-4th)
After our epic Pentecost Event this year with Mike Pilavachi and Tom Smith, we have begun to look ahead to Pentecost 2017.
This falls in the first weekend in June (2nd-4th), which is also the weekend of Motofest, organised by Jubilee Church, which has become a major event attracting around 90,000 visitors to the city over the weekend.
We felt we needed to seek to work together with James Noble, the principal organiser of Motofest, to complement what is already happening.
We plan to set up a number of stalls in Broadgate as in previous years using our yellow gazebos, showcasing and raising awareness of the wonderful work being done in and beyond the city by Christian groups. We will also provide a number of high quality Christian musical performers to play using the open air stage in Broadgate. The duration would ideally be from noon to 5pm on the Saturday.
In addition, signposted regularly from the stage, we will provide face painting and kids’ craft activities in a tent or gazebos located in the circular pedestrianised area in Hertford Street (close to “The Works” and the Oxfam shop). We have been asked to provide this on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
No burgers this year as Motofest franchises do not permit giveaways, but we do plan to give away 5,000 bottles of water labelled as a gift from Coventry churches.
Pentecost Sunday morning
We have also been given the amazing opportunity to use the large stage and PA system which will be set up in Greyfriars Green on the Sunday morning. A number of church leaders on the Pentecost Planning team felt a rise of faith that we could arrange a united gathering of Christians from across the city as a further expression of the growing unity of the body of Christ in our city (one church – many congregations). Some of us will close our own Sunday meetings and come together to worship God and “dwell together in unity.” (Psalm 133).
The area in front of the stage in Greyfriars Green accommodates several hundred people. The service will last around one hour (no seating will be provided, though people could bring their own folding chairs). It will include praise and worship led by an inter-church band, a short Pentecost-themed talk and prayer for the city.
